Vanessa Scott, a member of Sutherland’s Tax Practice Group, focuses her practice on counseling employers on compliance issues involving qualified and non-qualified employee benefits plans. Her practice also covers health and welfare plans, equity compensation and tax-sheltered annuity 403(b) plans. Vanessa also counsels employers regarding the employee benefits aspects of domestic and international corporate transactions.

Vanessa began her legal career as an associate at law firms in Birmingham, Alabama, and subsequently served as Legislative and Tax Counsel for a member of the House of Representatives from Alabama. Prior to joining the firm, she was Legislative Counsel and Corporate Secretary for the ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC) in Washington, D.C., where she represented the employee benefits interests of Fortune 100 employers before Congress, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the U.S. Department of Labor.
