Rob Neis is a partner in Sutherland’s Tax Practice Group, focusing on executive compensation and employee benefits. Rob’s practice centers largely on the design, implementation and operation of various types of executive compensation arrangements, including nonqualified deferred compensation plans, incentive plans, employment agreements and equity compensation arrangements. Rob also advises clients on a variety of golden parachute issues, Code section 162(m) performance-based compensation issues and proxy disclosure issues. He regularly works with some of the firm’s largest financial services clients on issues involving their in-house executive compensation arrangements and nonqualified plan products offered to third parties. Rob frequently lectures on executive compensation issues.

In addition, Rob advises clients on a wide variety of qualified retirement plan issues. He regularly works with clients on implementation, amendment and compliance issues, and he represents clients in controversies with the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Labor. Rob also advises clients on employee benefits issues in mergers, acquisitions and other corporate transactions.

Rob represents a wide variety of private and publicly traded companies, ranging in size from Fortune 25 multinational corporations to start-up companies. His clients also include government entities, tax-exempt organizations and individual executives.

Before concentrating his practice on the tax and labor law aspects of employee benefits and executive compensation, Rob was a litigator focusing primarily on insurance and ERISA matters. He continues to provide advice in litigation involving employee benefits issues.
