 Richard Hartnig is a member of Sutherland’s Tax Practice Group, focusing on international tax matters. He has more than 30 years of experience advising multinational corporations on the tax aspects of cross-border mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, financings, cash repatriations, and intercompany transactions.

Richard has served as international tax counsel to numerous Fortune 1000 companies, including leaders in the insurance, energy, paper and mining sectors. He has also worked extensively with private equity funds in creating offshore investment vehicles and foreign funds investing in the U.S. and international tax.

Before joining Sutherland, Richard was a principal with a Big Four accounting firm from 1999 to 2009. Richard also served in the office of the Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. from Washington, DC from 1979 to 1983 and with Troutman Sanders from 1983 to 1997.
