Sutherland Litigation Counsel Jack Massey weighed in on the continuing call for Environmental Protection Agency action regarding the renewable fuel fraud that has rocked the industry this year. In a September 28, 2012, Houston Business Journal article titled “Drilling Down,” Jack says there are a number of ways for RIN producers to cheat the system, such as wholesale fraud, ultimately leaving refiners with the accountability and fines. “Those lawsuits added expense and uncertainty to the market, and that’s really the genesis for them to look at reforms to the market,” he explained.
