Sutherland Receives Prestigious United Way Recognition for Civic Commitment

May 22, 2008

Atlanta (May 22, 2008) –  The United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta presented Sutherland with the United Way Logan Cup on May 19.  The Logan Cup is named in honor of Atlanta attorney Joseph C. Logan, who pioneered organized community giving efforts in the early 1900s and founded what would eventually become United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.  This award is presented annually to recognize metro Atlanta law firms that demonstrate great generosity of spirit and civic commitment in their United Way campaigns for the Atlanta community.  Sutherland was selected among the 46 large and small law firms in metro Atlanta that run a United Way campaign.

Sutherland was selected for its demonstrated leadership in community involvement.  The firm participated in the Women’s Legacy Shoebox Project Toiletry Drive in February, the Cell Phone Drive in the Spring and the Fall Craft Fair.  After the March tornadoes in the metro Atlanta area, the firm donated uniforms, toys, flashlights and money to Bethune Elementary, the Vine City Community and the United Way Tornado Relief Fund.  As a corporate contributor to United Way’s annual campaign, Sutherland experienced a 24 percent increase in its 2007 campaign donations.

Sutherland is an AmLaw 100 law firm known for solving challenging business problems and resolving unique legal issues for many of the world’s largest companies.  Founded in 1924, the firm has grown to approximately 500 lawyers with offices in Atlanta, Austin, Houston, New York, Tallahassee and Washington.  For further information about the firm, please visit www.sutherland.com.
