This Monday, January 30, 2012, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP Partner Lewis S. Wiener will appear on National Public Radio's "The Diane Rehm Show" to discuss the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution. Lew will join guests Jeffrey Rosen, professor of law at The George Washington University, and Michael Quinn, president and executive director of James Madison's Montpelier, to take a closer look at the amendment, which guarantees due process of law, protects against self-incrimination and bars unlawful "takings" of private property for public use by the federal government. The trio are expected to analyze the merits of specific cases such as Penn Central v. New York City (1978), Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council (1992) and Kelo v. City of New London (2005).
Lew, a corporate defense attorney and head of Sutherland's Financial Services Litigation Team, has vast commercial litigation and trial experience, including serving as class action defense and arbitration counsel. He also represents clients in eminent domain/inverse condemnation and land-use litigation before state and federal trial and appellate courts. Prior to joining the firm, Lew was a trial attorney at the Department of Justice.
"The Diane Rehm Show" is produced at WAMU 88.5 in Washington, D.C., and is distributed by National Public Radio, NPR Worldwide and SIRIUS satellite radio. For a list of public radio stations that broadcast the show, click here.
