WASHINGTON D.C. and ATLANTA (May 6, 2011) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP today announced that Atlanta Partner N. Jerold Cohen will receive the 2011 Distinguished Service Award from the American Bar Association Section of Taxation. The revered honor is given annually in recognition of a lawyer’s exceptional contributions to the tax system and tax bar.

Jerry, a member of Sutherland’s Tax Practice Group, represents a number of U.S. and foreign clients in all aspects of domestic and international tax planning and controversy matters. He has been involved in planning and structuring major corporate acquisitions and dispositions. He has successfully litigated federal and state tax cases and has handled numerous matters before the IRS, state revenue departments, and the U. S. Department of the Treasury. He has also handled legislative matters for clients, has testified on a number of occasions before the two Congressional tax-writing committees, and has worked with the Joint Committee on Taxation on tax legislative matters.

The American Bar Association Section of Taxation is the national voice of tax lawyers and has approximately 23,000 lawyers nationwide. The Distinguished Service Award was established in 1995.
