Sutherland Lawyers Close Atlanta Business Chronicle's "2006 Deal of the Year"

Atlanta - Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce the $5.4 billion sale of  Westinghouse Electric Company LLC to the Toshiba Company by British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL) has been selected by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as its "2006 Legal Dealmakers M&A Deal of the Year."

Sutherland partners Mark D. Herlach, Peter H. Dean and James R. McGibbon represented BNFL in the transaction, which closed October 16, 2006 (To read a press release announcing the closing, please click here).  In addition to the Westinghouse deal, three other Sutherland transactions received honorable mention status in the "2006 Legal Dealmakers" special section, published January 19:

  • William H. Bradley, B. Knox Dobbins, Eric R. Fenichel and Victor P. Haley represented Resource Management Services LLC in its $5 billion acquisition of International Paper's timberland holdings.
  • Victor P. Haley, Thomas C. Herman and Edward W. Kallal Jr. represented the Forestland Group LLC in its $465 million purchase of Anderson-Tully Company.
  • Thomas C. Herman, Daniel R. McKeithen and Marc A. Rawls represented Temple-Inland Inc. in its $150 million acquisition of Caraustar Industries Inc.'s interests in Standard Gypsum L.P.
