Michael Sweeney represents energy clients on energy and commodity regulatory and policy matters before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). His clients include multinational oil companies, investor-owned utilities, independent power producers and system operators, energy traders, and energy marketers.

Michael is playing a significant role in the energy industry’s response to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (Dodd-Frank), representing a cross-industry group of energy companies in rulemaking proceedings before the CFTC and other agencies. He is also advising clients on compliance, enforcement and transactional matters impacted by Title VII of Dodd-Frank.

He has significant experience advising clients on all aspects of FERC regulation, including representing clients in audits and investigations and in the development of comprehensive compliance and risk management programs.
