Michael practices predominantly in the area of federal tax law and concentrates on the taxation of insurance companies, corporate restructurings, consolidated return issues, the general taxation of corporations and shareholders, and the taxation of regulated investment companies. He has substantial experience in advising clients on the tax consequences of proposed mergers and other reorganizations, reinsurance transactions, stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions, distributions and redemptions.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as an attorney in the Office of the Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service.  He has more than 25 years of experience in handling federal tax controversies, first for the Internal Revenue Service and now for the firm’s corporate and individual clients, as well as substantial experience in obtaining rulings for clients on corporate tax and other matters and in practicing before the Internal Revenue Service.

Michael is a member of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, the Section of Taxation of the District of Columbia Bar Association and the Section of Taxation of the Federal Bar Association.

Michael is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, 2005-2006, in Tax Law.
