Andrew Appleby is a member of Sutherland’s Tax Practice Group, focusing his practice on state and local tax matters.

Andrew assists clients with a broad range of state and local tax issues. He has experience in many areas of multi-state taxation, including income, franchise, sales and use taxes. Andrew represents clients at all stages of tax controversy—from audit through appellate litigation. He also advises clients regarding multi-state tax planning and complex transactions. In particular, Andrew advises and speaks in the area of cloud computing, remote access software and electronic services.

Andrew participated in the Graduate Tax Scholar fellowship program at Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to earning an LL.M. at Georgetown, Andrew was an associate with an Atlanta-based firm, where he focused on transactions in the information technology and energy industries.

Additionally, Andrew is emerging as one of the nation’s most prolific sports taxation scholars. Andrew has published several law review articles in the area of sports taxation, and he has been quoted in The New York Times and interviewed on radio and television—including Bloomberg TV’s “InBusiness with Margaret Brennan”—discussing intriguing sports tax issues.
