Jim Jordan, who serves as Practice Group Leader for Sutherland’s Real Estate Practice Group, has diverse and extensive experience in all aspects of commercial real estate and regularly represents clients in purchase and sale, lending, development, leasing and joint venture transactions for office, industrial, retail, multi-family and mixed-use real estate projects located throughout the United States. As part of his practice, Jim is regularly involved in transactions involving partnerships, limited liability companies, real estate investment trusts (REITS) and corporations, and understands the structuring and organizational aspects of each entity type.

Over the course of his career, Jim has represented lenders, borrowers, owners and tenants in distressed real estate transactions including workouts, foreclosures, deeds in lieu of foreclosure and Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

Jim also serves as chair of Sutherland’s Retail Team and devotes a substantial portion of his time to retail development and leasing matters. He has experience representing developers and retailers in retail product types ranging from freestanding facilities to neighborhood and power-center developments to enclosed regional malls.

Jim also has experience in real estate transactions in foreign jurisdictions, most notably Puerto Rico and Mexico. He represented a well-known retailer in the development, acquisition and rollout of stores in Mexico.
