Jim is a member of the Corporate Practice Group and is focused on serving clients in the areas of finance, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, general corporate law, securities and governance.
 
He has represented the State of Georgia, numerous political subdivisions, hospitals, colleges and universities and other non-profit entities throughout the country, and investment banking firms in connection with project financings on both a taxable and tax-exempt basis.
 
Jim is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association and the Lawyers Club of Atlanta.  He is Chair of the Board of Directors of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and a member of the Board of Directors of both the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta and Auburn Seminary in New York.  He is a member and the past Chair of the Board of Directors of Equal Justice Works (formerly NAPIL) in Washington, DC, the largest provider of postgraduate public interest law fellowships in the country.  Jim serves on the Board of Visitors for the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. 
 
Jim was firmwide Managing Partner from 1996 to 2005.  During his term as managing partner, the firm experienced exceptional growth in both the number of clients served as well as the number of practicing lawyers.
