James Cline is a member of Sutherland’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and focuses his practice on preparing and prosecuting patent applications for mechanical technologies.

Prior to joining Sutherland, James worked as a Patent Examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined applications for mechanical inventions concerning hardware, fasteners, and related assemblies and methods. James also has previous technical experience as an engineer for a medical device company, where he collaborated with surgeons on the development of spinal implants and instruments. He also worked as an engineer for a multinational beverage company, focusing on the design of beverage dispensing equipment.

James is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
