Sutherland attorneys Victor P. Haley and Ellen S. Smith are speaking at the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference, April 14-16, 2009, at the Fairmont Southampton in Bermuda. Victor is moderating a panel on “The Equity Capital Markets – Who Will Lead In 2009 And Beyond?” Historically, when the capital markets adjust, new players emerge. The panel will discuss if this will be the case in the next 12 months in the Caribbean, as well as the outlook for the equity markets and who is poised to make a statement.
Ellen is a member of a panel entitled “Investing in the Caribbean Today – The Issues and Opportunities.” The Caribbean is one of the world’s best-known resort markets and is a region full of immense opportunity. Yet, investors still face challenges that are bigger than their individual projects such as air access, labor availability, seasonality, high costs of doing business and high taxation. The panel will discuss what is and can be done at the Island and regional level to tackle these issues.
