Sutherland Partner Douglas L. Siegler is speaking at ALI-ABA’s International Trust and Estate Planning Course on August 20, 2010, at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. Doug will be presenting on “Marital Deduction Planning for Non-Citizen Spouses.” His presentation will discuss the limitations on availability of the marital deduction where the spouse is not a U.S. citizen, lifetime planning and use of “qualified domestic trusts” (QDOTs) at death, qualifying retirement benefits for marital deduction, and pre- and post-mortem planning to minimize limitations.
This course will also focus on the tax and reporting rules relating to foreign trusts and trusts established by foreign grantors, the regulations and procedures implementing them, and complementary tax regimes affecting foreign corporations with U.S. shareholders.
