Walter Freitag advises clients on a wide range of patent litigation and prosecution matters. He prepares patent applications and counsels clients on patent prosecution issues across a broad spectrum of technological areas, including biotech and medical devices, consumer products and electro-mechanical devices.
Walter also prepares technical briefs and provides invalidity and infringement analyses, as well as prepares claim construction and dispositive briefs in litigation matters.
Prior to joining Sutherland, Walter participated in the firm’s Summer Associate Program. During law school, Walter served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Justice P. Harris Hines of the Supreme Court of Georgia.
Before entering private practice, Walter spent nearly a decade working domestically and abroad in research and development for global medical device corporations and start-ups. He worked directly with clinicians developing products ranging from biologic, synthetic and radioactive implants to surgical tools and complex plasma generating surgical equipment.
Walter has significant experience with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and international regulatory audits and new device approvals. His broad technical background includes mechanical design, electrical systems and controls, chemical processes, bio-materials, and a wide range of manufacturing technologies.
Walter is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
