Meghana Shah is a Partner in the New York City office of Eversheds Sutherland. 

Meghana is a dynamic, creative and solution-focused lawyer with over 15 years of experience managing all aspects of domestic and international litigation and investigations. Clients appreciate her attention to detail, ability to meaningfully synthesize information, and case management skills, particularly with respect to managing cases across jurisdictions and globally. Meghana has significant experience handling and managing class action and large-scale multi-district litigation here at home and managing multi-lingual, international investigations around the world. Her industry experience spans multiple areas including: class action and multidistrict litigation in the environmental, toxic tort, food and beverage and energy space, as well as investigations in the insurance and financial services space.

Integrating those backgrounds together with her interests in leadership and entrepreneurship, emerging industries and wellness, she also co-founded and co-leads the Cannabis Industry Team at Eversheds Sutherland. In that role, she has served as a trusted strategic advisor to a variety of clients, including cannabis companies and ancillary service providers such as insurers and financial services institutions, with respect to a broad range of issues related to cannabis. She has also published extensively about a variety of legal and business cannabis issues and served as a resource to the media on cannabis business and legal issues, having been quoted in a variety of publications including Cannabis Business Times, Food Navigator, MG Retailer, Denver Post and others. She was recently selected to be a speaker at the cannabis industry’s major yearly conference, MJBizCon, in August 2020.

Outside of her practice, community service, civic engagement and pro bono work are an important part of her professional life. She has represented political asylees seeking asylum in the United States throughout her career. She also serves on the board of SAPNA NYC, a nonprofit organization that serves the South Asian immigrant community in New York City with scientifically-backed evidence-based programming.

  • Counsels clients on AI impact assessments.
  • Resolved a five-year international investigation on behalf of a global insurer concerning the insurer’s potential liability to the US Department of Justice in connection with cross-border sales of life insurance products by its non-US operating companies.
  • Counseled insurance providers with respect to underwriting insurance for various types of cannabis businesses and ancillary service providers to the cannabis industry.
