Maureen is the Senior Policy Adviser/Insurance working in our New York office.
As Eversheds Sutherland's (US) Senior Policy Adviser/Insurance, Maureen consults with the Firm’s insurance industry clients on the development of strategic approaches to emerging regulatory issues and responses to specific regulatory inquiries.
Maureen joined Eversheds Sutherland (US) following a 30-year career at Prudential Financial where she was Corporate Vice President and Head of State Government Affairs and Policy Development in the External Affairs Department until her retirement in June 2013. In that role, she managed a staff of regional, corporate and retained lobbyists and other professionals at the state, federal and international levels. Maureen led multiple policy initiatives, developed legislative strategies and engaged in regulatory negotiations, lobbying, coalition building and industry relations. She was involved in meetings regarding Prudential’s designation as a systemically important financial institution (SIFI) with the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC).
During her tenure at Prudential and at a multinational bank before that, she was responsible for directing legislative and political programs, and engaging in state, federal and international regulatory issues. She worked closely with the CEO, Vice Chairman and senior management on key public policy issues, positions, and political strategy and execution.
Maureen’s government affairs career started in the public sector when she served as a Legislative Associate on the staff of the New York State Assembly Speaker. Most recently, Maureen advised clients of a boutique New York insurance law firm, as Senior Vice President, Government Relations.
Maureen has testified and spoken on financial services regulatory reform and other industry issues before public policy makers and industry groups, including The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations (NOLHGA), the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) and others.
