Is the Lloyd’s market still attractive?

Sutherland Partner Jeff Mace, outside counsel to Lloyd’s of London on U.S. matter for the past 25 years, joins with Lloyd’s market leaders to discuss the value and future of the London subscription insurance and reinsurance market.

With more than 25 years of experience in insurance and reinsurance matters, Jeff Mace, assists clients in the United States, United Kingdom and Bermuda with corporate acquisitions, formations, restructurings, redomiciles, merger and acquisition transactions, and capital and debt offerings as well as with regulatory enforcement actions and tax planning, structuring and U.S. income and excise tax audits.

Jeff has acted as outside counsel to Lloyd’s of London for 25 years, and has a deep and intimate understanding of Lloyd’s market and its rich and long history. Representing Lloyd’s on projects that impact its members’ ability to trade in the United States, Jeff advises on matters involving income and excise taxes, state regulatory developments, federal and state legislative matters, trust fund requirements and litigation. He has represented Lloyd’s before multiple state and federal agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Treasury Department, U.S. State Insurance Commissioners, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, State Attorneys General and the New York Insurance Department (Department of Financial Services).

Jeff represents a number of Lloyd’s managing and member agents as well as corporate members within Lloyd’s market. He has advised U.S. and Bermuda-based insurance and reinsurance companies on their entrance into and participation in the Lloyd’s market, both for purchasers of an existing Lloyd’s vehicle and those that built new Lloyd’s vehicles. Likewise, Jeff has advised a number of the historical Lloyd’s platforms as they have expanded beyond the Lloyd’s room to establish affiliates in Bermuda and the United States.

Outside of Lloyd’s, Jeff advises insurance and reinsurance companies on matters before the IRS, which include representation regarding enforcement efforts by the agency with respect to the cascading federal excise tax (FET) issue.
