NEW YORK (October 27, 2009) – Sutherland Asbill and Brennan LLP was named to The Legal Aid Society’s Pro Bono Honor Roll as a result of the firm’s commitment to providing legal services in the community and its support of The Legal Aid Society. Sutherland was recognized during The Legal Aid Society’s 2009 Pro Bono Awards on October 26, 2009.
“Sutherland’s legacy is built upon giving back to our communities, and it is an honor to be recognized by The Legal Aid Society," said Pro Bono and Community Service Chair Judith A. O’Brien.
Judith A. O’Brien, Charles T. Lester, Jr., and Mark W. Yopp were each recognized for their pro bono work on an immigration case representing a long-term permanent resident on a Motion for Sentence Clarification in Georgia. Their successful representation prevented the client’s removal from the United States and allowed her to be reunited with her family after months of detention. In addition, Lawrence A. Dany III, Natanyah Ganz, Allegra J. Lawrence-Hardy and David P. Langlois were recognized for their pro bono representation of a disabled worker who was discriminated against and subjected to a hostile workplace because of his disability and perceived sexual orientation.
“I thank all of our attorneys for supporting our communities and the efforts of The Legal Aid Society," said Bill Bradley, Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s New York office. “This organization has a long history of providing legal services to those in need, and we are proud of our collaboration."
The Legal Aid Society is the oldest and largest not-for-profit organization in the United States providing free legal services for clients who cannot afford to pay for counsel. The Society provides legal services through a network of borough, neighborhood and courthouse offices in 25 locations in all five counties of New York City.
