ATLANTA (February 11, 2000) – N. Jerold Cohen, a partner in the Tax Group of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP, has been appointed Chair of the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council, effective January 1, 2000. The IRS formed the Advisory Council in 1999 to advise the Commissioner of Internal Revenue and other IRS officials and representatives on relevant tax administration issues, such as broad tax administration policy matters; IRS policies and procedures; and issues related to the on-going reorganization and modernization of the IRS. The Advisory Council is comprised of 16 members and includes a broad and diverse group of representatives from the business and professional community, the academic community, the nonprofit community and the public sector.
Mr. Cohen's practice focuses on domestic and international tax planning and controversy matters. He is a former Chief Counsel of the IRS and a former Chair of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association.
