ATLANTA (May 4, 2005) – Reginald J. Clark, a partner in Sutherland's Tax group, has been appointed Chair of the Committee on Corporate Tax for the American Bar Association's Section of Taxation for 2005-2006. As Chair, Mr. Clark will be responsible for coordinating all Committee activities, including CLE programs and legal projects in the corporate tax area. His practice at Sutherland is focused on corporate taxation and planning corporate acquisitions, restructurings and other transactions.
The ABA Section of Taxation serves more than 20,000 members through a wide range of programs and activities aimed at achieving an equitable, efficient and workable tax system. The Corporate Tax Committee of this Section is responsible for the sections of the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations governing the treatment of transactions involving corporations and their shareholders. It monitors and comments (both in writing and in person to Congressional, IRS, and Treasury personnel) on proposed and newly issued tax statutes, regulations and rulings affecting these areas and professionals working in corporate tax.
Mr. Clark is experienced in handling tax controversies and representing clients before the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service in connection with requests for rulings or technical advice. He is a former Adjunct Professor of Law in the Emory University School of Law's Graduate Tax Program and is a current trustee of the Southern Federal Tax Institute and Georgia Federal Tax Conference. Mr. Clark was also recognized in Atlanta Magazine's 2004 and 2005 Georgia Super Lawyers in the area of Tax.
