ATLANTA (FEBRUARY 27, 2013) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that Partner Peter J. Anderson was honored by the State Bar of Georgia last night at the 14th Annual Justice Robert Benham Awards for Community Service. Peter was recognized for his tireless work with ServeHAITI, a 501(c)(3) organization he helped found at Sacred Heart Church in Atlanta in 2000, which seeks to enhance the quality of life for residents in the Haitian village of Grand-Bois. At its inception, Peter provided valuable business insight and pro bono legal guidance, and has since held various executive leadership positions on the ServeHAITI board of directors.
"Peter has made invaluable contributions at Sutherland for more than 20 years, but he has been committed to community and pro bono services for even longer. He was appropriately singled out for his generous and passionate support to the people of Haiti through ServeHAITI," said Sutherland Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman.
At Sutherland, Peter assists clients in their response to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) enforcement actions, Department of Justice (DOJ) investigations and criminal prosecutions, and complex civil litigation. He also represents brokerage firms, broker-dealers and individual brokers before the SEC, and other regulatory bodies in investigations relating to supervision, suitability, sales practices and insider trading.
In addition to his legal practice at Sutherland and his work with ServeHAITI, Peter lends his support to Georgia-based organizations including the Childhood Autism Foundation, where he served on the board of directors from 1987 to 2007. Under his tenure, the Childhood Autism Foundation launched a significant community resource, the Emory Autism Resource Center at the Emory University School of Medicine.
ABOUT THE JUSTICE ROBERT BENHAM AWARDS FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE.
Since 1998, the Justice Robert Benham Awards for Community Service have been presented to honor lawyers and judges in Georgia who have made significant contributions to their communities and who demonstrate the positive contributions of members of the Bar beyond their legal or official work. These awards recognize the commitment of Georgia lawyers to volunteerism, encourage all lawyers to become involved in community service, improve the quality of lawyers’ lives through the satisfaction they derive from helping others, and raise the public image of lawyers. The honorees have served a wide range of community organizations, government-sponsored activities, and humanitarian efforts outside of their professional practices and judicial duties. All honorees are members of the State Bar of Georgia.
