Sutherland Partner Ann G. Fort Among Those Honored at Intellectual Property Community Service Awards Luncheon

ATLANTA (October 1, 2010)Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP Intellectual Property Partner Ann G. Fort will be among the Atlanta lawyers honored for their contributions to community service during the 2010 Intellectual Property Community Service Awards Luncheon. The awards luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 14, 2010 at The Commerce Club in Atlanta.

“We’re proud of Ann and celebrate with her," said Intellectual Property Practice Group Leader Peter G. Pappas. “Ann has devoted herself to community service while maintaining a thriving practice. She is a strong example for all attorneys."

Ms. Fort led the team representing Samuel David Crowe, a death row inmate who was granted clemency on May 22, 2008. Mr. Crowe, a client of Sutherland for more than 11 years, was granted life without parole. The decision was made 2 ½ hours before Mr. Crowe was scheduled to be executed by lethal injection. Ms. Fort devoted more than 1,000 pro bono hours representing Mr. Crowe. She is a frequent speaker on the topic of pro bono legal service and about this particular experience.

In addition to her pro bono work with the firm, Ms. Fort is a volunteer for Hagar’s House, a program of the Decatur Cooperative Ministry that provides up to 90 days of emergency shelter and support services for women with children. Ms. Fort is a member of the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association, the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, the Death Penalty Representation Project of the American Bar Association, the Litigation Section of the Atlanta Bar Association, the Intellectual Property Section and the Litigation Committee of the State Bar of Georgia, the Post-Conviction Committee of the State Bar of Georgia, the Women in IP Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL), the Careers in Action Committee for Women in Technology, and the Technology Association of Georgia.

A seasoned litigator involved in complex civil matters, Ms. Fort has protected the intellectual property rights of numerous clients in the United States and abroad. Her comprehensive experience encompasses patent infringement, licensing disputes, trade secret protection and unfair competition.

About the Intellectual Property Community Service Awards Luncheon
Hosted by the Georgia State University College of Law and the Georgia State University J. Mack Robinson College of Business, the Intellectual Property Community Service Awards Luncheon celebrates those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the community. This year, an inaugural intellectual property charity golf tournament will be held on October 4, and the proceeds will benefit the Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, the Public Interest Law Association and the Intellectual Property Scholarship Fund at Georgia State University.
