Daphne G. Frydman concentrates her practice on financing transactions, securities offerings and mergers and acquisitions for financial services clients. She has significant experience working with insurance companies. Recently, Daphne has advised a major insurance company on an $825 million life insurance reserve securitization transaction. Daphne resides in the Washington, D.C. office.
From our Energy and Environmental Practice Group:
Mark D. Sherrill concentrates his practice on counseling debtors and creditors in financial restructurings, litigation and workouts in the energy industry, and on providing advice on derivatives to energy companies and hedge funds. Recently, Mark has served as counsel to commodities trading entities in connection with bankruptcy cases such as Flying J, SemCrude, and VeraSun. Mark resides in the Washington, D.C., office.
Cindy A. Upchurch focuses her practice on transactional and finance work for electric cooperatives, including tax exempt and Rule 144A securities offerings, government-guaranteed financings and other credit facilities. Cindy has represented several electric cooperatives over the last year in the restructuring of all of their outstanding secured debt through the adoption of mortgage indentures. Cindy was featured in the Atlanta Business Chronicle “Dealmakers" edition for her role in the $1.3 billion securities offering for an electric cooperative. Cindy resides in the Atlanta office.
David L. Wochner works with clients on regulatory, policy and transactional issues in the natural gas, liquefied natural gas, and offshore energy sectors recently focusing on acquisitions in the Marcellus Shale. David is co-founder of the LNG Law Blog, the leading industry source for North American liquefied natural gas news. He is also a co-founder of and regular contributor to the Offshore Energy Blog, focusing on issues at the intersection of offshore energy, federal policy, regulation and politics. David resides in the Washington, D.C., office.

Jeffrey D. Blake manages all aspects of intellectual property litigation and counseling and has extensive patent litigation experience in both the electrical arts and pharmaceuticals. Jeff has represented clients before the U.S. International Trade Commission, litigated multiple actions enforcing the copyrights of a major firm client, negotiated the licensing of patent portfolios and gained experience in identifying misuse of Internet domain names under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy. Jeff resides in the Atlanta office.
Laura Fahey Fritts advises clients involved in pharmaceutical and chemical patent litigation. She has represented pharmaceutical companies in patent litigation brought under the Hatch-Waxman Amendments to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and brought under Section 337 before the U.S. International Trade Commission. Recently, Laura helped secure victories for the world’s largest generic pharmaceutical company at both the district court and Federal Circuit levels. Laura resides in the Atlanta office.

Jamala S. McFadden focuses her practice on complex business and employment litigation and counseling. She manages all aspects of litigation and has experience representing companies in multi-jurisdictional and class action matters in federal and state courts. This year, Jamala successfully defended a client in a three-week federal trial where the plaintiff asserted breach of contract claims and sought millions of dollars in purported lost profits. The jury returned a verdict of $0. Jamala is the President-elect of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and serves as an attorney coach for a high school mock trial team. Jamala resides in the Atlanta office.

Douglas W. Benson focuses his practice in the areas of federal estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxation for individuals. His practice includes advising clients in connection with wealth transfer planning, including tax and succession planning for owners of closely held businesses, charitable planning, and planning with life insurance. Doug also advises clients in the administration of estates and trusts and has represented clients in estate and gift tax audits. Doug resides in the Washington, D.C., office.
Jennifer B. Molnar advises multinational corporations on tax planning and structuring of cross-border transactions. She has experience with international, subchapter C and tax treaty analysis. Jennifer is part of a team serving as tax counsel in a $19 billion international acquisition. Jennifer resides in the Washington, D.C., office.
Vanessa A. Scott counsels clients on compliance issues involving qualified and non-qualified employee benefits plans. Her practice also covers health and welfare plans, equity compensation and tax-sheltered annuity plans. Recently, Vanessa advised a Fortune 100 company with regard to the employee benefits and executive compensation of a $50 million stock acquisition of a retirement services company. Vanessa resides in the Washington, D.C., office.
