Sutherland Continues to Expand Intellectual Property Practice with the Addition of Two New Associates

ATLANTA (November 4, 2002) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announces the addition of  William R. Silverio and Charlena L. Thorpe to its Intellectual Property Practice in Atlanta.  

"Bill and Charlena bring significant electrical engineering knowledge to our practice, which has enjoyed tremendous momentum in recent months," explained John North who heads Sutherland's Intellectual Property Practice.  "We're excited to have them both on board."

Bill Silverio, formerly an associate with Alston & Bird LLP, concentrates his practice on the preparation and prosecution of patents for electrical, software and business method inventions.  He will work closely with Sutherland partner Griff Griffin, who joined the firm from Alston & Bird several months ago.  Bill is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a former Patent Examiner.  Bill received his J.D. from The University of Georgia School of Law and his B.E.E. from Georgia Institute of Technology.  

Charlena Thorpe, formerly an associate with Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, L.L.P., concentrates her practice on patent prosecution and litigation in the electrical area.  While a graduate student, she was a National Science Foundation Fellow and gained significant technical experience working as a research engineer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Motorola, Inc.   She is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is an adjunct professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, where she teaches an introductory intellectual property class.  She earned her J.D. from Emory University School of Law and her M.E.E. and B.E.E., with high honors, from Georgia Institute of Technology.
