Sutherland Closes $1.3 Billion Bond Offering for Great River Energy

ATLANTA (July 9, 2007) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP served as underwriters' counsel for J. P. Morgan Securities, Inc. and Goldman, Sachs & Co. in a $1.3 billion bond offering for Great River Energy.

The complex transaction, which closed July 2, is precedent setting in the industry. At $1.3 billion, this is the largest debt offering ever by an electric generation and transmission cooperative.  Great River Energy used the proceeds to pay off all of its secured debt, including its debt to the Rural Utilities Service, and leave the government-sponsored program.
