WASHINGTON (May 1, 2001) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that our client, WAVA Limited Liability Company, an affiliate of Urban Service Systems, Inc., was among those honored at the Washington Business Journal's annual "Best Real Estate Deals of 2000" awards dinner on April 29. "Best Industrial Deal" was awarded in connection with our client's long-term lease agreement with the District of Columbia. The property, a former car dealership on West Virginia Avenue, NE, will house the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department' s new state-of-the art fleet maintenance facility. Existing buildings on the site, including a 40,000-square foot maintenance facility, will be gutted and upgraded. The lease also grants the District the right to purchase the property upon fixed terms.
Washington real estate partner Mark D. Jackson represented the landlord in negotiations with representatives of the District of Columbia and the D.C. Financial Control Board. Charles M. Flickinger assisted by addressing various environmental issues raised by the District in connection with the subject property's prior use.
Mark represents real estate developers in acquiring, disposing of and financing real estate, and in managing and leasing commercial real estate projects. He also represents lenders and other institutional investors making real estate and other asset-based loans and investments. His clients include owners, developers and managers of office buildings, residential communities, research and development facilities, commercial shopping centers and mixed-use projects, as well as "big-box" retailers.
