ATLANTA (February 22, 2012) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that Joel J. Hughey has joined the firm’s Atlanta office as a partner in the Corporate Practice Group. With him, Mr. Hughey brings extensive transactional and securities experience in the technology industry.

As a partner on Sutherland’s Finance and Private Capital Team, Mr. Hughey will counsel technology companies and private equity and venture capital investors on a broad range of corporate, securities and finance matters. His diverse transactional experience includes mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, joint ventures, and public and private capital raising – including equity, debt and convertible debt offerings.
Mr. Hughey comes to Sutherland from Premiere Global Services (Premiere) where he served as senior vice president for corporate development. In that role, he led the corporate development team responsible for acquisitions, partnerships and other investments, including cross-border, multinational deals. During his tenure, Mr. Hughey closed more than 25 acquisitions and investments in North America, Europe and Asia.
Prior to Premiere, Mr. Hughey had 13 years of private practice experience in Atlanta, where he structured, negotiated and closed more than $15 billion in acquisition transactions for technology and other companies.
Mr. Hughey received a J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1987.
