HOUSTON (August 28, 2006) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP today announced the addition of four partners from Houston's Locke Liddell & Sapp LLP, effective immediately. Don E. Wood, Paul Bishop, T. Alan Harris and Annette Tripp will join Sutherland's Corporate Group and will be resident in the firm's Houston office.
The attorneys' corporate practice involves regulatory, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, enforcement and product development for banks and other financial services institutions. The four new partners also represent mortgage companies, insurance agencies, money transmitters, trust companies and other financial services companies in similar practice areas.
"As Sutherland continues to experience significant growth, we are able to hire accomplished lawyers such as this group to expand key practices. The addition of Don, Paul, Alan and Annette will greatly enhance the representation available to our clients," said Sutherland Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman. "The group's experience will be of tremendous value to the firm and to our clients as we continue to expand our presence in Houston."
Sutherland is known for handling complex, large-scale transactions such as the $5 billion sale by International Paper to Resource Management Service LLC and Timber Investment Group, and the $5.4 billion sale of Westinghouse Electric Company to Toshiba Corporation. Both transactions took place during the first quarter of 2006.
Corporate Practice Group Leader James L. Henderson III said, "When we combine our existing corporate practice with the reputation and experience of our new lawyers, we will bolster our highly respected group and complement the firm's financial services practice."
Don Wood will take the helm leading the Houston office. "We are very excited to join such a well-regarded firm as Sutherland," Wood said. "We look forward to expanding the firm's financial services practice and continuing to provide outstanding legal services to our clients."
