Sutherland Attorneys Set to Tackle Risk Management, Legal Project Management, Electric Generation Projects, Energy Regulation and Compliance, and SEC Settlement Negotiations at ACC Annual Meeting

September 26, 2012

ATLANTA (September 26, 2012) – At the Association of Corporate Counsel’s 2012 Annual Meeting, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP attorneys will headline with issue-driven topics including:  risk management, legal project management, electric generation projects, energy regulation and compliance, and SEC settlement negotiations. The annual event will take place in Orlando, Florida, from September 30 to October 3, at the World Center Marriott.

This year, six Sutherland attorneys will participate in the following programs:

“May the Force Be With You: Best Practices in Risk Management for Energy Companies"
Rachel Giesber Clingman will moderate a panel focused on risk management issues facing in-house counsel at energy companies. The panel will discuss best practices and potential pitfalls in identification of risk and risk control (including counterparty and credit risk), contract negotiation and drafting, insurance, and indemnity.

“Project Management for In-house Counsel"
Jennifer W. Fletcher will lead a panel of in-house counsel and host a workshop focused on legal project management. The workshop will highlight best practices, lessons learned, and strategies for effectively managing outside counsel on legal projects.

“How Many Lawyers Does It Take to Change a Lightbulb? How to Manage an Electric Generation Project"
Dorothy Black Franzoni will moderate a panel focused on best practices in managing an electric generation project. The panel of in-house lawyers will share best practices and lessons learned in working across disciplines and with outside counsel to ensure the scope of the matter and the budget are managed effectively.

“Mamma Mia – There They Go Again: Dealing with Stricter Energy Regulators"
Catherine M. Krupka will speak on current issues in energy regulation and compliance. The interactive panel will explore hypothetical compliance cases, participate in determining whether they present compliance problems, and suggest how companies should respond to these problems.

“How to Negotiate a Settlement with the SEC"
Brian L. Rubin and Deborah G. Heilizer will lead a program on SEC settlement negotiations which will present hypothetical scenarios and role-playing to model a face-to-face “negotiation" with the SEC and will describe the “closed door" conversations which take place between in-house and outside counsel.
