ATLANTA (July 8, 2011 ) – From transactions to operations to foreclosures, two attorneys at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP have reviewed legal issues that insiders frequently face in the hospitality industry. In their new book, Hotel Law, Partner Victor P. Haley and Counsel Ellen S. Smith offer guidance through industry complexities.
“Many in the hotel industry are in the process of recovering from the economic meltdown and are attempting to navigate new legal issues," said Mr. Haley. “In addition to many other matters, our book sheds some light on different options when facing bankruptcy or foreclosure."

Mr. Haley is a member of Sutherland’s Real Estate Practice Group and handles a wide range of commercial real estate transactions, including hotel development and finance; sales and financings of timberland; representation of construction and permanent lenders and developers; syndication work; and lease negotiation on behalf of both landlords and tenants. He has extensive experience in handling acquisitions and joint ventures in Brazil and throughout Central and South America.
Ms. Smith is a member of Sutherland’s Real Estate Practice Group and focuses her practice on the hospitality industry, institutional investment, development and finance. Ms. Smith is also a participant in Sutherland’s Brazil Initiative. From September to December 2010, she worked on real estate and hospitality matters as visiting counsel in the law firm of TozziniFreire Advogados in São Paulo, Brazil.
