WASHINGTON (November 6, 2003) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan announced today that Anita M. Herrera and Susan P. Grymes have joined the firm as associates in the Energy practice.
Prior to joining Sutherland, Herrera was an attorney advisor for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in the Office of Market Oversight and Investigation. During her tenure she provided legal counsel in matters involving bankruptcy and credit issues, and she investigated natural gas, electric and hydroelectric power matters. Herrera's additional government experience includes managing cases in the Division of Enforcement at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) involving exchange traded futures and over-the counter derivatives.
Herrera also was in-house counsel to Statoil Energy, Inc., a former subsidiary of Statoil NA where she had lead legal responsibility for their energy derivatives trading activities. While in that capacity, senior management appointed Anita to the Risk Committee where she established the company's legal policies and procedures, and counseled senior management on regulatory issues and control strategies to mitigate the legal risks of trading activities.
Grymes joins Sutherland from the law firm Olsson, Frank & Weeda, P.C. where she practiced regulatory and legislative law. She also worked previously for Chairman Tom Bliley, Jr. on the U.S. House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee. Grymes focuses on advising industrial end users on numerous issues related to natural gas before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the federal appellate courts. She also advocates the interests of industrial consumers in state and legislative matters.
