Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP Announces New Partners and New Counsel

ATLANTA, HOUSTON, NEW YORK and WASHINGTON (January 1, 2004) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that nine attorneys have been elected to the firm's partnership and three attorneys have been named counsel effective January 1, 2004.

In the Atlanta office:

Bert Adams III (33), Thomas A. Farnen (33), Matthew J. Gries (34), Allegra J. Lawrence (32), Daniel H. Schlueter (32) and Thomas H. Warren (33) have been elected partner.  Mr. Adams practices in the firm's Business Practices Group and focuses primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, general corporate matters and securities.  Mr. Farnen practices in the firm's Litigation Group and focuses primarily in the areas of securities litigation, antitrust compliance and environmental law.  Mr. Gries practices in the firm's Tax Group.  He has experience in a wide variety of federal tax matters including both corporate planning and tax controversy work.  Ms. Lawrence practices in the firm's Litigation Group and focuses on labor and employment law and commercial litigation.  Mr. Schlueter also practices in the firm's Litigation Group and focuses on complex litigation, including consumer class actions and education finance.  Mr. Warren's practice involves commercial transactions, project development and securities matters for the energy sector, with particular focus on matters for power marketers and electric cooperatives.

Jeffrey M. Taylor (33) has been named counsel.  Mr. Taylor focuses his practice in securities regulation, public offerings, corporate and private finance, corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions.

In the Washington, D.C. office:

Paul B. Turner (36) has been elected partner.  Mr. Turner represents energy trading and marketing companies in litigation, regulatory, and commercial matters and has extensive experience advising such clients with regard to bankruptcies, creditors rights, derivatives and forward contracts.  He also concentrates on business counseling and litigation for technology companies.  Lewis S. Wiener (41) has also been elected partner.  Mr. Wiener practices in the firm's Litigation Group and focuses on commercial litigation, complex construction, environmental law and eminent domain/inverse condemnation litigation before state and federal trial and appellate courts and administrative tribunals.

David J. Kritz (37) has been elected counsel.  Practicing in the firm's Tax Group, he represents clients in employee benefits matters and has a wide range of experience on ERISA and tax issues involved in designing, administering, amending, and terminating qualified retirement plans, group health plans, cafeteria plans, and other welfare and fringe benefit arrangements.

In the Houston office:

W. Eric Dennison (40) has been elected partner.  Mr. Dennison practices in the firm's Energy Group and focuses on natural gas and electric energy law, project finance and development, general business transactions, and commodities law.

In the New York office:

Eric L. Sidman (37) has been elected counsel.  Mr. Sidman practices in the firm's Real Estate Group and focuses on commercial real estate with an emphasis on retail and office development and leasing.
