ATLANTA (January 1, 2002) – Sutherland is pleased to announce that four attorneys have become partner and two attorneys have been named counsel effective January 1, 2002. In Sutherland's Atlanta office, Thomas W. Curvin, Matthew W. Nichols and W. Scott Wright were named partner and Holly H. Smith was named partner in the Washington office. Also in Washington, Pamela K. Ellis and Daniel E. Frank were promoted from associate to counsel.
In Atlanta, Mr. Curvin, 35, focuses his practice on commercial litigation, with emphasis on franchise litigation, professional liability and class action and Mr. Nichols, 33, practices principally in the areas of finance and tax-exempt finance and has broad experience representing issuers and underwriters in state and local government financings. Mr. Wright, 33, focuses his practice on state and local taxes and has broad experience representing businesses both in tax planning and in disputes with state revenue departments.
In Washington, Ms. Smith, 44, advises broker-dealers, market makers and insurance companies on the application of the U.S. federal securities laws and the rules of the self-regulatory organizations, particularly the NASD. Prior to joining the firm, she spent thirteen years at the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Frank, 34, has substantial experience in advising electric cooperatives, power marketers, end users, and other electric industry participants on commercial and regulatory issues and Ms. Ellis, 38, focuses her practice on the registration and regulation of investment oriented products of insurance companies under the Investment Company Act.
