WASHINGTON (January 28, 2009) – Sutherland announces that Pilar Mata has joined the firm as an associate in the Tax Practice Group, resident in the Washington, D.C., office. Ms. Mata focuses her practice in state and local tax, and she has represented clients in tax controversies at the audit, administrative, trial and appellate levels. She has also advised clients regarding the state and local tax consequences of various business transactions.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Mata was an associate with Morrison & Foerster in California. She has experience in franchise and income taxes, fees, gross receipts taxes, telecommunications taxes, and sales and use taxes. She has extensive knowledge in apportionment, nexus and addback issues.
