WASHINGTON (May 24, 2001) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that Jack H. Blaine has been awarded The Buist M. Anderson Distinguished Service Award from The Association of Life Insurance Counsel at the Association's 2001 annual meeting at The Greenbrier. This award is given to an attorney in recognition of his/her years of outstanding service to the life insurance industry.
Prior to joining Sutherland, Mr. Blaine served as President at the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association (NOLHGA) from 1992 until his retirement in 1997. Before serving NOLHGA, he was President and CEO of the Reinsurance Association of America. Mr. Blaine spent a significant portion of his career at the American Council of Life Insurance where he was Vice President and General Counsel. His primary responsibility for ACLI was supervision of legislative and regulatory activities in all states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Mr. Blaine, of counsel in the corporate group, advises the firm's insurance clients with respect to life insurance regulatory issues, insurance consolidations, mergers and acquisitions, receivership and guaranty association matters. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of the Journal of Insurance Regulation and has served on and chaired a number of advisory committees to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners on subjects that include guaranty funds, group life insurance regulation, AIDS, and regulation of third party administrators, reinsurance and unisex insurance rates. Mr. Blaine is a frequent speaker on issues relating to insurance laws and regulations affecting life and health insurers.
