ATLANTA (June 27, 2011) – Taking a national role in diversity leadership, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP Partner Marc A. Rawls has been named an Ambassador in the American Bar Association's diversity program. Mr. Rawls is one of only five attorneys of the organization's 400,000 to be extended the invitation this year.
Mr. Rawls, a member of the legal organization’s Business Law Section, will be charged with multifaceted responsibilities during his 2011-2013 ambassadorship. His primary commitment, however, is to find ways to promote the participation of diverse lawyers in section activities. Additionally, Mr. Rawls will have unique opportunities to become further involved in substantive work of the Business Law Section.
“Marc is a sound choice to serve as an Ambassador for the American Bar Association," said James L. Henderson III, firm partner and chief diversity officer. “This role will be a great way for him to expand his work to the national level, since he has always taken a lead role as a member of Sutherland’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee."
At Sutherland, Mr. Rawls concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate and securities law, restructurings and strategic relationships. He has represented various clients in acquisitions involving both privately and publicly held companies, restructured transactions involving privately held companies and joint ventures, and advised on private and public securities offerings, and governance matters involving both public and private companies.
Mr. Rawls is active in his local legal community as a member of the American Bar Association and as the general counsel of the Atlanta Bar Association. He also serves the greater Atlanta community as a board member of Students Without Mothers, Inc. and a member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc.
