ATLANTA and WASHINGTON (May 5, 2009) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP has been named one of the "Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity" by MultiCultural Law magazine. The magazine also recognized Sutherland as one of the “Top 25 Law Firms for African-Americans” and one of the “Top 50 Law Firms for Women.”
“While Sutherland has had partners of color and women partners for decades, our diversity efforts have become more intentional within the past 10 years—not only because it’s the right thing to do, but also because we believe that being more diverse helps us deliver more value to our clients,” said Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman.
“This recognition acknowledges the dedication and efforts of our entire firm,” said Valerie A. Jackson, Director of Diversity. “Diversity remains a priority for Sutherland because of the benefits to both our firm and to the legal profession."
ABOUT SUTHERLAND’S DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVES
At Sutherland, we believe that diverse skills, knowledge and viewpoints make for a stronger, more productive law firm, and we are proud of the important roles that our attorneys and other colleagues play in our firm’s growth and development. Our 36-member, cross-office Diversity and Inclusion Committee helps shape the firm's culture. Sutherland sponsors a number of activities supporting our diversity and inclusion efforts, such as our Sutherland Scholars program, which supports the success of incoming law students from historically underrepresented backgrounds in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Students attend sessions taught by Sutherland attorneys and guest speakers and learn skills and strategies they can implement from their first day of law school. Sutherland attorneys also continue to participate in the firm’s affinity groups and in external community initiatives to carry diversity forward within Sutherland and the legal profession.
