Sutherland Partner Matthew J. Gries spoke at Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia 10th Annual Non-Profit Law Seminar. His presentation titled “Ethical Considerations for EO Practitioners,” covered the following:

Multiple representation issues: Who is the client?
Attorney-client confidentiality within the different levels of an organization
Confidentiality vs. disclosure to the IRS
Self-dealing situations
Excessive compensation

As a member of Sutherland’s Tax Practice Group, Matthew regularly represents corporate taxpayers and tax-exempt organizations, including universities; private foundations; other religious, charitable and educational organizations; and family offices having philanthropic services as a part of their functions. He has experience in a wide variety of federal tax matters, including planning and tax controversy work.
