Legal Alert: Streamlined Sales & Use Tax Agreement Becomes Effective October 1, 2005

July 6, 2005

The Streamlined Sales Tax Project Implementing States meeting was held in Chicago on June 30 - July 1. The meeting was significant because: States will offer to the business community a voluntary collection system that allows for a streamlined and more automated collection process; and States will likely more aggressively seek federal legislation that, if enacted, would allow states to force remote sellers to collect sales/use tax. Please click here to read the Legal Alert for a discussion of the meeting and its ramifications.

Any advice in this communication (including attachments) concerning a federal or state tax issue is not intended or written to be used, and cannot be used by the taxpayer, for the purpose of avoiding penalties that may be imposed on the taxpayer.
