Life Insurers Pressed to Find Lost Policyholders

In a recent Wall Street Journal article on unclaimed insurance property, Sutherland Partner Mary Jane Wilson-Bilik objected to the notion that insurers have not been meeting legal obligations to pay-out policies. The article explores recent settlements that now require insurers to check their policyholder lists regularly against a death database and try to track down survivors of anyone whose death shows up.
