The Japanese trade ministry has asked U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu to permit Japan to import LNG from U.S. mainland terminals to help the country replace energy supplies previously provided by Japan’s nuclear power plants, which have been shut down since the nuclear disaster last year.
