The State of Oregon and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) have filed separate requests for rehearing following FERC’s conditional authorization of the Jordan Cove LNG import project. Oregon argues that FERC’s authorization was improper because the state has not yet certified the project’s compliance with water quality standards or consistency with the state’s federally approved Coastal Management Plan. Oregon also argues that the approval was made before FERC initiated formal consultations to investigate the project’s potential effects on endangered species. In its filing, NMFS echoes Oregon’s assertion that FERC issued its conditional authorization before formal endangered species consultations were complete. Both requests for rehearing are available in the eLibrary under Docket No. CP07-444. The Mail Tribune (Medford, Ore.) provides additional coverage.
