Several speakers at Platts’ Liquefied Natural Gas Conference, held last week, concurred that they eventually expect to see an increase in U.S. LNG imports, but disagreed on when significant increases in import volumes might begin. According to Platts LNG Daily [subscription required], some analysts believe that the increase will begin in 2013, when several liquefaction projects are expected to come on-line worldwide. Several analysts cited global market conditions, such as increased costs of liquefaction projects and heightened demand in emerging LNG markets in China and India, as potential challenges to increasing U.S. LNG imports.
