Broadwater Energy’s proposed LNG terminal and the vessels that would supply it may cause ecological harm to marine organisms inhabiting Long Island Sound, according to a Jan. 18 letter submitted to FERC by the U.S. Dept. of Interior. The agency estimates that millions of fish eggs and larvae may be killed as a result of impingement and entrainment in the facility’s and vessels’ water intake equipment. The agency also expresses concern regarding discharge into Long Island Sound of ballast water treated with a disinfecting agent. The letter may be found in the FERC e-Library in Docket No. CP06-54.
