The Herald News reports on a proposed ordinance that requires any company planning to build a tank of more than 5,000 gallons in Fall River for the purpose of handling natural gas to obtain a license from the City Council. The ordinance would allow Fall River police and fire chiefs, as well as the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, to review all of the company’s safety, security, emergency response, and fire protection plans for “adequacy and effectiveness” before the City Council issues a license. A board member of the activist group that proposed the ordinance said that, if passed, the ordinance may prevent the development of the FERC-approved Weaver’s Cove LNG terminal.
