The congressional Government Accountability Office (GAO) presented to local officials in Suffolk County, New York, the findings from its report on potential hazards facing LNG terminals. A representative of Broadwater LNG stated that the report’s most important finding was that “a catastrophic event with LNG was unlikely.” A Suffolk County legislator, on the other hand, concluded that nightmare scenarios are a possibility and more study is required. The GAO plans to publish two additional studies, one due this summer and the other next year. Newsday.com provides further coverage.
