Golar LNG, the world’s largest independent ship owner, has announced that it will convert an existing 129,000 cubic meter LNG vessel into a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). Keppel Shipyard of Singapore will perform the conversion, which will be the first of its kind. Golar believes that “no other system can compete with this concept in terms of pricing when satisfying early or extra demand for gas.” Golar’s press release can be found here.
